LiDAR Cane Support

LiDAR Cane turns your iPhone’s LiDAR sensor into touch, helping blind and low-vision users sense the distance to obstacles as haptic feedback — in cane mode (holding the phone) or touch mode (exploring the scene under your fingertip on screen).

Requirements

An iPhone with a LiDAR scanner is required: iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro and Pro Max models. The app cannot function on non-Pro iPhones because they lack LiDAR hardware.

Common questions

I feel no vibration

  • Verify the device is an iPhone Pro model with LiDAR capability.

  • Confirm camera permission in iOS Settings → LiDAR Cane → Camera.

  • In cane mode, vibrations activate only when obstacles exist within the configured range (default 0.5 to 3 meters); empty space produces no feedback intentionally.

  • Check that System Haptics remain enabled: iOS Settings → Sounds & Haptics.

I hear no spoken distance

  • Double-tap with two fingers anywhere on the screen in either mode.

  • Increase media volume — speech plays despite silent switch activation, but not at zero volume.

How do I change how it feels?

  • Access Settings from the home screen. Each slider generates haptic preview feedback during adjustment, and custom combinations can be stored as named presets.

  • Voice selection for distance announcements is available under Both Modes — Voice.

Safety

LiDAR Cane is an awareness aid. It is not a replacement for a white cane, guide dog or other primary mobility aid, and should not be relied on as your only means of detecting obstacles.
