LiDAR Cane Support
LiDAR Cane turns your iPhone’s LiDAR sensor into touch, helping blind and low-vision users sense the distance to obstacles as haptic feedback — in cane mode (holding the phone) or touch mode (exploring the scene under your fingertip on screen).
Requirements
An iPhone with a LiDAR scanner is required: iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro and Pro Max models. The app cannot function on non-Pro iPhones because they lack LiDAR hardware.
Common questions
I feel no vibration
Verify the device is an iPhone Pro model with LiDAR capability.
Confirm camera permission in iOS Settings → LiDAR Cane → Camera.
In cane mode, vibrations activate only when obstacles exist within the configured range (default 0.5 to 3 meters); empty space produces no feedback intentionally.
Check that System Haptics remain enabled: iOS Settings → Sounds & Haptics.
I hear no spoken distance
Double-tap with two fingers anywhere on the screen in either mode.
Increase media volume — speech plays despite silent switch activation, but not at zero volume.
How do I change how it feels?
Access Settings from the home screen. Each slider generates haptic preview feedback during adjustment, and custom combinations can be stored as named presets.
Voice selection for distance announcements is available under Both Modes — Voice.
Safety
LiDAR Cane is an awareness aid. It is not a replacement for a white cane, guide dog or other primary mobility aid, and should not be relied on as your only means of detecting obstacles.
